I have a website which is divided in wordpress and an selfmade admin part.

The wordpress part has woocommerse installed and there are other pages created.

I can install the plugin WPML/POEditor or take advantage of Polylang, Polylang Theme Strings and Lingotek which are also installed.

Wordpress is already including some .po/.mo files and woocomerce a .pot file.

I need help to make sure this is working fine. I would like to end up with only one or two pot files handling all wp...

Another thing is how I execute Poedit on the admin part. I dont know if my source files are changed when I execute POedit meaning I will have only one shot.

Can you guys guide me?

First of all: All translations of WP and plugins are performed using .po/.mo files.
a .po file is the file, where you can define your translation into local language (called localisation in WP term). After You have made your translation you generate a .mo file, which can be easily read by WP.

You cannot work with only pot files - pot = Portable Object Template. If there is a pot file, this file is use to generate your local language files .po/.mo.

And, just to complete my introduction to your question: Woocommerce is a WP-plugin.

I do not think it is possible to operate with only one set of .po/.mo files. It will simply demand too much rewriting of Wordpres and plugins, and you will never get the advantage of receiving updates of your WP and plugins.

PoEdit is quite complicated to work with. I would recommend to use a WordPress Plugin, either: Loco Translate or Codestyle Localization.

You can change and add to your to your .po file as much as you like, but every time you need your translation to be activated, you have to generate a .mo file. (Inside the 2 plugins I recommend is this simply done by pressing a button.)

Honestly I know how pot files are translated to po and mo. That not the problem!

My challange is how I generate one or more pot file(s). I ask about the plugins Polylang, Polylang Theme Strings and Lingotek because I started to use Polylang to generate some pages ready for languages.

POEdit I have known for some time and I think its easy to use for as long as you have a pot file. My question was how do you generate such!! Is POEdit scanning files in a directories and subdirectories? I it making changes to the sourcefiles?

WPML/POEditor I found information about because I looked for a solution for WP fix files.

Guess Loco Translate or Codestyle Localization are the other plugins doing the same.

In general, if you generate a .po file and do not start any translation you can rename and save that file as a pot file.

You generate the pot file in PoEdit. I cant remember how but I remember that it was a struggle because the programme have to identify your files and text to be translated. Moreover, if you do not identify the position correct, you get nothing. The problem is when you work with PoEdit you work offline on your own pc, and then the position is different when you are online.

By using the plugins, I propose, it is easy to read plugins and generate the files in any language - and then you actually not need any pot file.

Your question may be so specific that it might be better for you to goto wordpress.org/support. It is a bigger Forum and the main language there, is English.
